Who is Emily, anyway?

Here, you can write a brief introduction to your page. This engages your visitors and answers questions they may have about you.

I’m not great at small talk. Here’s my best attempt.

Hi, I'm Emily. Nice to meet you!

I graduated from Santa Clara University with a degree in anthropology. Before you start asking about my favorite dinosaur, I regret to inform you that’s paleontology. I've always been fascinated by humans. I'm captivated by the brilliant and idiotic things we do and say and build and destroy. I do love a friendly Stegosaurus, though!

Like many people, you may be wondering what I’ve done with my degree since acquiring it. Excellent question! I spent the early part of my twenties in a remote part of Nevada excavating the remains of giant prehistoric swimming reptiles and rounded out the decade searching for pterodactyls in Costa Rica (pictured above). In all seriousness, the question has, and will always have, an evolving answer — and, honestly, could that be any more on-brand for an anthropologist-turned-copywriter?!*

I’ve worked at advertising agencies big and small. I’ve had copywriter, content strategist and conceptor attached to my name. Hell, I’ve even taught English to high school students in Chile because Kurt Vonnegut once told me peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God and I listened.

Anyway, stay a while, click around and feel free to reach out with any questions.

*Ok, fine. I was never technically an anthropologist. I just have a diploma that says I took enough classes on the Yanomami in Brazil to earn a degree in anthropology. In reality I got an internship as a social media writer straight out of college.

Some trivial facts

I review places, services and things around DFW on Instagram. It’s called The DFDubber.

I once co-directed a music video with a bunch of teenagers for a lip dub competition in Santiago, Chile. We didn’t win.

I’m on an improv team called Frost Bite. Here’s our tragically awkward promo vid.

I run the lights and music for improv, sketch and stand up shows. It’s usually the most stressful part of my week.

I teach adult ESL classes to a group of delightful humans once a week.
